Star Wars v SBY

The task for this design project was rather straightforward, revive a ship model I had discontinued, and use it for a simple storytelling-style render.

The project ended up finding itself positioned into multiple stages. First stage was to re-access my unfinished model and bring it to a point where it could be used for rendering, primarily involving coloring and lighting in this case. One primary difficulty with using this model involved previous errors while creating it that had gone unnoticed until much later down the line. Those issues ended up resulting in me creating the render with multiple different layers of renders, and then utilizing photoshop to overlay them together.

The second step for this project was to create the field of destroyed ships for the foreground, of which I chose to utilize some of my previous models, such as my EDF Escort Battleship, EDF Frigate, and multiple Andromeda Battleships. I altered the color scheme of each one to represent some lore information from their respective franchise, primarily depicting them as Orange/Black and Black/Orange respectively. I then imported the lighting setup from the Subjugator render as a way to align the light sources in a way that would not seem strange.

The final step was to composite all the images together, I utilized photoshop to import each layer together, and then used the paint tool and a gaussian blur effect to emphasize the glowing effects

My overall reflection from this project is straight forward. Even though the background model seemed like it would cause issues to render out, it cooperated surprisingly well. The concept of using layers to render things also allows render times to be shortened due to not needing everything together, though the risk of consistency within the lighting is a presented risk.
