Coastal Cleanup Corps
The Coastal Cleanup Corps is the frontline volunteer program of the Blue Horizon Initiative, dedicated to removing plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, and other pollutants from California’s beaches, estuaries, and coastal trails. This hands-on effort not only improves the health of marine ecosystems but also strengthens community bonds and environmental awareness.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in regularly scheduled cleanup events, which are coordinated with local municipalities, schools, and environmental groups. Each event includes safety briefings, data collection on types of waste found, and educational talks about the impact of marine debris on wildlife and ocean health.
Beyond the cleanups themselves, the Corps also supports advocacy for better waste management policies and promotes sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of ocean stewardship and the satisfaction of making a visible difference in their local environment.
